Viktor Novák svk

Viktor Novák is not only the finest person, but also an adventurer, multi-athlete and trail builder from Slovakia. He loves discovering remote places, meeting new people, and sharing his explorations with the SUNLIGHT community.

Viktor, is there a place that you would consider your home?

No not really, since I finished school, I worked in and travelled to many places and I lived in my old van for 5 years. I am a lot on the road. But there are two places where I spend most of my time – Innsbruck and Bikepark Kálnica, where I have lived and build trails for the past 5 years.

How did you come into biking?

A long time ago, maybe around year 2008, when I first saw a mountain bike movie called Roam. Then I luckily got my first real bike from my parents, got into the forest with the shovel and since then it still keeps me until today.

Have you built trails at other places. And are there trails YOU WISH you had built?

I also worked on other projects in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria. I also lived and helped with the trail building at Spanish bike park called La Fenasosa.

What are your top 3 secret bike spot tips?

  • La Fenasosa bike park, a hidden gem in the hills above Alicante. A perfect spot to visit over the winter – if you don’t ski, of course.
  • Bernex bike park close to Geneva lake in France, where you can find some really creative and quality build bike trails.
  • All the mountain ranges in Romania. Here you can still find that wild natural experience, with endless trails which are very suitable for riding bikes.

And for freeriding in wintertime? Where do you love going? What are your top spots?

For many years I have been spending my winters in Tirol/Austria. I think there you get one of the best lift-accessed mountain areas in the world and if you get a Snowcard ticket you can really catch fresh snow in any of the resorts here, and well there is ultra lot of them.

Are there any places you still long to go and explore?

Yes, for sure. I would really love to travel much more to the less common destinations. On my list there are many countries in South America, Africa and for sure I would love to see Nepal and earths biggest mountains.

Any travelling and camping tips?

The best companion on our travel is for sure the Park4night app where you can search all the camping spots, water filling stations, parking lots – just everything you need on the roads with a van. And my biggest recommendation: don’t be afraid to travel to countries that you don’t know and are not exactly on the shiny European destination list. Try to encounter the locals, speak with them, they are mostly very nice people and can lead you to spots that you wouldn’t find alone by yourself.
